We are SDU Vikings Racing Team and we are about 40 Danish and international students from University of Southern Denmark in Odense who recently started making Viking III which is the third car in the history of the team.  Our goal is to be able to make a car which can compete in the Formula Student event at Silverstone in England.

Formula Student is an exciting international design competition. It’s the largest and most successful of its kind in the world. Over 400 university student teams worldwide participate in this competition by designing, building, testing and racing their very own Formula style racing car. Teams compete at one, or more, of the 8 events which are held throughout the world on racetracks like Silverstone, Hockenheim and the California Speedway.

The main purpose of the competition is the education of the students through the broad hands-on experience they gain while working in a challenging, high-tech project.

The competition prepares students for their future careers in engineering and business.

Not only engineering skills, but also management, presentation and people skills are trained; the project comprises everything the students will face in their future careers.

Participants in the Formula Student competition are trained in the following disciplines:

  • Engineering design
  • Aesthetic design
  • Sustainable design
  • Production design
  • Management
  • Fundraising
  • Presentation techniques
  • Finance
