Photos from SDU-Vikings's post The accumulator for Viking X stores the energy needed to drive the car. It consists of 140 cells in series for a total maximum voltage of 588V. The cells used are pouch cells from Melasta. The total energy of the accumulator is 6.5 kWh.
The electronics in the accumulator is all about safety. This is achieved with our self-developed Accumulator Management System. The voltage and the temperature of the cells are monitored in order to ensure safe operation of the accumulator. The AMS is not only used during driving, but is also vital to charge the accumulator safely.
Many of the components, including connectors, passives, transformers and DC/DC converters are from Würth Elektronik eiSos Group.
Another part of the safety system in the accumulator is the Insulation Monitoring Device from Bender GmbH & Co. KG. This device monitors the insulation between the high-voltage system and the chassis of the car.
